In response to a June 20 letter: Maui County is not giving $3.5 million in advertising to hotels.
That $3.5 million is a tiny percentage of the taxes those hotels created for the state and county via accommodation taxes, excise taxes and property taxes.
So spending that $3.5 million by the county returns many, many times that amount to the county and helps keep Mauians employed in every business directly or indirectly involved in tourism.
