Support given to Netra Halperin for House

July 1, 2012
The Maui News

My career and life are committed to creating sustainable environmental solutions. As a water quality scientist, I know that the decisions that we make around our watersheds and wastewater treatment facilities will have saving or dire consequences. We need people in government who are both knowledgeable and willing to listen, and who participate in community efforts to solve social, economic and environmental problems. That is why I am supporting Netra Halperin for state House, South Maui.

On the environmental aspect, as a member of Southwest Maui Watershed Plan Advisory Group, Netra understands the importance of managing the watershed as a whole to ensure clean drinking water, alleviate flooding and protect coral and fisheries. She understands that our quality of life and our tourism-based economy are dependent on clean water.

One reason that I respect Netra so much is that she is working hard on all aspects of the triple bottom line - environmental, social and economic.

To help create social sustainability, she is giving Justice Reinvestment presentations around Maui, outlining how to stop wasting money in private for-profit prison systems and begin shifting our criminal justice system to one that actually reduces drug abuse and crime.

On the economic level, Netra has been working with South Maui homeowners facing foreclosure. Netra Halperin is the candidate who goes beyond talk and has been working with and for the South Maui community for years. I am committed to triple bottom line sustainability, so I am committed to electing Netra Halperin.
