* BASEBALL

July 8-The Maui College Intramural and Club Baseball Programs are accepting current or future University of Hawaii Maui College students and others interested in playing, coaching, managing, marketing, or volunteering. July 8-A wood-bat baseball league for players 25 and over is accepting players. The 14-game season begins July 8, with games Sundays in Lahaina, Kihei and Makawao. For more information, email league@mauiadultbaseball.com.

* BASKETBALL

Aug. 5-The Maui Youth Basketball League is taking applications for its 2012 fall league, for boys and girls born in years 1997 to 2006. Volunteer coaches and referees are also needed. Applications are available at The Sports Authority, Maui Sporting Goods and the Central Maui county permits office, or by emailing cssuzuki@hawaiiantel.net. The deadline to apply is Aug. 5. * CYCLING

Aug. 25-The Cycle to the Sun, a 36-mile race from Paia to the summit of Haleakala, 10,023 feet above sea level, is scheduled for Aug. 25, with a 6:30 a.m. start. Riders can register individually or as a three-person relay team. The entry fee is $200 for individual racers, or $300 for a team. A $25 fee will be charged after Aug. 6. * FOOTBALL

Saturday-Sign-ups for the Maui High School junior varsity football team will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the school's field. For more information, contact coach BJ Aipa at benjonaipa@aol.com. There will also be a "Speedburner Session" conducted by returning sophomore players at 10 a.m. Athletes ages 13-15 are invited to the session, which focuses on improvement in running. Participants are required to bring running shoes - not cleats - as well as their own drinks.

* GOLF

Today-The deadline to register for the Kings Cathedral Sports Ministry Scramble Golf Classic is today. The tournament is scheduled for July 14 at The Dunes at Maui Lani, with a 7 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee for the two-person modified scramble is $100 per golfer, which also pays for use of a cart, an awards banquet and entry into competitions for prizes, including a hole-in-one contest in which a Harley-Davidson motorcycle will be available. July 9-The deadline to enter The 58th annual Maui Women's Golf Invitational, scheduled for Aug. 4-5, is July 9. The tournament will be held at Kahili Golf Course on Aug. 4 and at the King Kamehameha Golf Club on Aug. 5. The shotgun start both days is at 7:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast, and an awards luncheon will follow the final round. The entry fee is $165. All proceeds will benefit the Maui Food Bank. A food drive will be held Aug. 4 at Kahili, and a silent auction will be held Aug. 5 at the awards luncheon at King Kamehameha. July 28-The next event in the Maui Tour golf series is scheduled for July 28 at The Dunes at Maui Lani. The field will be limited to 40 players. Future events are scheduled for Aug. 17 at the Kapalua Plantation Course, Sept. 7 at the Wailea Emerald Course, October at Kahili Golf Course and Nov. 9 at King Kamehameha Golf Club. * SOFTBALL

Aug. 17-19-UCLA softball coach Kelly Inouye-Perez will conduct a clinic Aug. 17-19 at Patsy Mink Field. The registration fee is $100 per player and $50 per coach until Saturday, and $120 per player and $70 per coach after that date until July 28, the final registration deadline. The player limit for the clinic will be 150 players - 75 from 4th through 8th grades, and 75 from 9th through 12th grades. Applications can be downloaded at mauisoftballclinic.com.
