Radiology decision harmful to health of Maui’s peopl

July 2, 2012
The Maui News

The Hippocratic oath tells physicians: "Never do harm." The Maui Memorial Medical Center's decision to fire its stellar radiologists and hire a corporate Mainland provider to save money puts us all at risk (The Maui News, June 23 and 24).

Only 10 percent of the decision was based on the background, experience and references of the radiologists who actually read our X-rays, angiograms, MRIs, mammograms, CT scans, PET scans and ultrasounds. Ninety percent was based on cost, management and control and service delivery plans. This is all corporate efficiency language aimed more at saving money than saving lives.

The MMMC decision does harm to the health of all Mauians and must not stand.
