MAKAWAO - Roads in and around Makawao town will be closed Saturday beginning at 8:45 a.m. for the 47th annual Makawao Paniolo Parade, which begins at 9 a.m.
The following roads will be closed (all leading into Makawao town):
* Baldwin Avenue at its intersection with Kaluanui Road.
* Makawao Avenue at its intersection with Kokomo Road and at Makani Road.
* Olinda Road at its intersection with Hanamu Road.
The roads will reopen around 11:30 a.m. or as soon as possible after the parade. People are requested not to use the roads after 8:30 a.m.
Residents below Makawao Avenue and on the Pukalani side of Baldwin Avenue may use Maha Road for egress toward Pukalani until the beginning of the parade reaches that area.
Aala and Ukiu roads will be opened after the last parade entries pass.
Public parking will be provided at the Eddie Tam Memorial Center and the Oskie Rice Arena. Spectators parking at the arena will be shuttled to Makawao town from 7 to 9 a.m. After the parade, the shuttles will run from Makawao town to the Oskie Rice Arena until noon.
The Maui Friends of the Library will hold a book sale in front of the Makawao Public Library from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gently used books for adults and children will be sold. All proceeds will support program funding and materials for Maui County public libraries.
