Lunas win Mainland wrestling tournament

ESTES PARK, Colo. - Lahainaluna Red, a club team comprising students from the high school, defeated Dickinson (N.D.) 35-12 to win the Xcel Wrestling National Team Camp dual-meet tournament on Sunday.

Three Lahainaluna wrestlers recorded pins in the title match - Thomas St. John won by fall over Dillon Clark at 150 pounds, Justin Taylor pinned Michael Dobitz at 180 and Joshua Coston won by fall over Ashton Sickler at 195.

Lahainaluna's Bubba Jaramillo won by major decision, 16-2 over Matt Berg, at 140, and Christian Balagso (110) Robert Campos (130), Giovanni Perez (165) and Connor Mowat (heavyweight) won matches by decision.

Lahainaluna finished 7-0 in the two-day tournament, out-scoring opponents 262-44.

Lahainaluna White took seventh place.

Last week, Lahainaluna placed second in the Owen Wrestling Camp tournament in Spokane, Wash.

Sakugawa aces No. 8 at Waiehu

WAIEHU - Lee Sakugawa of Wailuku recorded a hole-in-one Sunday at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course.

Sakugawa aced the eighth hole, using an 8-iron for the 160-yard shot, which was witnessed by Mike Shimoda, Ron Thompson and Peter Escobar.

Team Soccer Direct camp scheduled

KAHULUI - A Team Soccer Direct camp is scheduled for Monday through July 11 at Maui Waena Intermediate School.

Instruction will be offered by Paul Caligiuri, a former U.S. national-team player and former men's and women's coach at Cal Poly-Pomona; current UC Irvine men's coach George Kuntz; and current Hawaii-Hilo men's coach Ziggy Korytoski.

The camp will offer instruction in two sessions - one for under-6 to under-14 players, and one for under-14 to under-18 players.

For the younger players, the camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day, and the total fee for all three days is $85. The fee for half-day sessions, from 9 a.m. to noon, is $65.

For older players, the camp will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m., and the fee is $60.

All participants must bring a ball, and will receive a T-shirt.

Little League 9-10 team to hold benefit auction

WAILUKU - The Central East Maui Little League 9-10 team is raising funds for its trip to the state tournament on the Big Island, scheduled for July 13-17.

An auction will take place at facebook.com/mauiallstars, beginning Friday. Monetary donations are also being accepted and can be sent to Central East Maui Little League, P.O. Box 2092, Wailuku, 96793.

Checks should be made out to C.E.M.L.L. Tax I.D. No. 91-1931128, and should include the note "CEMLL 2012 9/10 ALL STARS."

Cricket matches set for this weekend

PAIA - The Maui Cricket Club, Emu Plains Cricket Club of Australia and Honolulu Cricket Club will play matches at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Baldwin Beach Park. Emu Plains will play Honolulu on Saturday, and Maui will face Emu Plains on Sunday.
