NAPILI - The Napili Kai Foundation awarded $13,500 in scholarship awards to five Lahainaluna High School alumni June 12 at the Napili Kai Beach Resort. The awards came from three different scholarship funds.
Michael Lloyd Akiona, whose mother, Lorene Akiona, has worked at the Napili Kai Beach Resort for eight years, received $1,500 from the Perna Foundation for Hope and $1,500 from the J.C. Millar Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fall, Akiona will enter his third year at Kapiolani Community College, where he is earning his emergency medical technician degree.
Kerilyn Dofa, a 12-year member of the Napili Kai Foundation, received $1,500 from the Perna Foundation for Hope and $1,500 from the Dennis Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Dofa will be completing her final year at the University of Hawaii Maui College, where she is earning her dental technician degree.

Dominique Laborte received $2,000 from the Perna Foundation for Hope and $1,500 from the Dennis Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Laborte, an 11-year member of the Napili Kai Foundation, will enter her final year at Linfield College in the fall, where she is majoring in athletic training.
Kelcie-Marie Naleieha, whose grandmother, Natalie Naleieha, recently retired from the Napili Kai Beach Resort after 38 years, received $2,500 from the J.C. Millar Memorial Scholarship Fund. Naleieha will begin her first year at the University of Oregon in the fall.
Caitlin Panis received $1,500 from the Dennis Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund. In the fall, Panis will enter her third year at University of Hawaii Maui College, where she is majoring in photography and marketing. She was a member of the Napili Kai Foundation for 3 years.
The nonprofit Napili Kai Foundation was founded in 1966 to perpetuate the culture of Hawaii through the children of Maui. Members learn dances, language, history arts and crafts of Polynesia.
