First Photo: Noel Withers of Kihei tucks into a quick tube ride Thursday afternoon at the Maalaea surf spot called "Off the Wall."
Second Photo: Kula's Kaleo Padilla catches a wave. Padilla said he hopes the waves at "Off the Wall" are an indicator of a good summer of surfing to come. "It's good fun," Padilla said. "It's nice to have a summer swell. Hopefully, we get more south swells." A high-surf advisory for south-facing shores in Maui County remains in effect until noon today, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu. A high-surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches and produce rip currents and localized beach erosion. Surf is expected to have 5-to-8-foot faces through midday today. Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break.
