WAILUKU - A 41-year-old Kahului man who damaged his wife's car was sentenced June 27 to five years' probation and 30 days in jail.
Second Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo also ordered Diosdado Anton to enroll in anger management classes. He used a pick ax to smash the windows of his wife's Lincoln Navigator, nails to puncture its tires and a utility razor to slash its interior.
"You wanted to hurt your wife. You wanted to hurt her. You wanted her to feel your pain," Loo told Anton. "You have some really serious anger problems."
Loo said that when Anton didn't get his way, he got angry.
She told Anton that he is calm and respectful in court, but that is just one side of his personality.
"There is a side of you that is hot headed, and full of rage," she said.
Anton apologized.
"I try to do my best to become good again," he said through an Ilocano interpreter.
Anton pleaded no contest to second-degree criminal property damage for the property damage on May 16, 2011.
Records show Anton got upset when his wife refused to give him $5,000.
In an unrelated case, 33-year-old Jeffrey A. Pitts of Kihei was placed on one-year probation and ordered to pay nearly $210 in restitution and a $2,000 fine for his role in thefts involving Sears employees at the store's warehouse two years ago.
Pitts apologized for his actions at his sentencing on June 27.
"I accept full responsibility for my actions. I can assure you I won't be here again," Pitts told Loo.
Pitts, who has no criminal record, was given a chance to clear his record if he successfully completes probation.
Pitts pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of third-degree theft for incidents that occurred from May 26, 2009, to May 26, 2010.
