Healthy offerings at charity walk appreciated

July 10, 2012
The Maui News

Thank you to the American Cancer Society and local Maui chapter for putting together another successful Relay For Life on June 30 at the War Memorial complex.

Each year, I look forward to this event. As an 11-year cancer survivor, I'm just really thrilled to be here, to be healthy and to be able to walk my laps around the track with my family and friends. Good feelings all around.

I usually skip the survivors' and caregivers' dinner because I simply choose to eat more locally sourced healthful foods. But this year, I was thrilled to find instead of the usual sugary white flour cake for dessert there were fresh, locally grown strawberries. Thank you Teena and Chauncy Monden of Kula Country Farms for your thoughtful and healthy donation.
