Japanese Cultural Society of Maui presents two $1,000 scholarships

The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui recently presented a $1,000 scholarship to Lahainaluna High School graduate and class valedictorian Kiara Galicinao and King Kekaulike High School graduate Aja Muromoto.

Galicinao is the daughter of Kelcie Matsui and Kevin Galicinao. She was a member of her school's Japanese Club, Hawaiiana Club, Aloha Club, National Honor Society, Skills USA and student government. She was also involved with cheerleading and volunteered as a Japanese tutor. Galicinao will attend the University of Oregon and plans to study architecture and Japanese.

Muromoto is the daughter of Thomas and Liane Muromoto. She was a member of her school's Japanese Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Avid Club, Best Buddies and is currently a member of the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui. She also played volleyball and volunteered as a tutor. Muromoto will attend Western Washington University to study international business and Japanese.
