I support the new shopping center in Kihei.
We are still suffering from the recession and need to be focused on Maui's economic recovery. I have friends who are unemployed, and I know of several people who lost their homes to foreclosure.
The new retail shops being planned for Kihei will create construction jobs and economic activity for suppliers and workers.
After that there will be retail jobs and jobs for those who provide the services needed to maintain the two malls planned.
There is no perfect project but the developers have indicated that they will work with the community to improve their initial plans.
Let's give them a chance.
