Champion Mustang team seeks donations

WAILUKU - The Maui Mustang All-Star team, winner of the 9-10 Pony League state championship, is seeking monetary donations to help fund its upcoming trip to regionals.

The team - coached by Craig Okita, Chad Llego and Dean Yamashita - will travel to play in the West Regional, set for July 26-29 in Los Alamitos, Calif. The winner of the regional then plays in the Mustang World Series in Burleson, Texas.

Naish Paddle Championships set

KAHULUI - The seventh annual Naish Paddle Championships will be held July 22.

The 9.54-mile race from Maliko Gulch to Kahului Harbor will have a staggered start at 1 p.m. and feature stand-up paddle and paddleboard classes.

Entry forms and more information are available at mauipaddleboard.com. The early entry fee is $50. Race-day registration is $70.

King Kekaulike football tryouts to start July 17

PUKALANI - King Kekaulike High School will hold football tryouts starting July 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the school's stadium.

Players need to have a physical and come to the field ready to practice.

BBB Benefit Golf Tournament set

WAIEHU - Applications are currently being accepted for the 30th annual Baldwin Basketball Backers Benefit Golf Tournament.

The two-person scramble tournament will be held on Aug. 12 at the Waiehu Municipal Golf Course.

Entry forms are available at most local golf course pro shops. Prizes include golf equipment as well as special prizes on each par-3 hole. Fees include cart, prizes and an awards luncheon.

Badminton league meeting set for July 23

MAKAWAO - An informational meeting for a badminton league will be held for all interested players on July 23 at Eddie Tam Gym.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. and will go over league rules and regulations. Players who want to participate in the league must attend the meeting, no exceptions.

Football officials meeting on Tuesday

WAILUKU - The Maui Football Officials Association will be starting its weekly meetings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Baldwin High School portable classes.

Any interested persons who would like to be part of the association and officiate are asked to attend.
