The Maui News

About 100 people attended the grand opening of the Courtyard Maui Kahului Airport hotel on Thursday night.

The 138-room hotel, across Haleakala Highway from Costco, is the first Courtyard by Marriott property on Maui and the fourth statewide.

There was a Hawaiian blessing, hula dancing, Japanese taiko drumming and other music.

The first people to make a reservation at the Courtyard Maui Kahului Airport hotel were Larry, Julia and Eva Pierson of Chandler, Ariz., who relax by the outdoor firepit Thursday. “I followed this from the groundbreaking to the opening online in The Maui News,” said Larry Pierson. Julia performs hula for the Arizona halau Aohakaiikahula.

The four-story hotel and R.D. Olson Development, the hotel developer and owner, made a $5,000 donation to the Maui Food Bank at the grand opening.

Hotel amenities include free WiFi and broadband Internet access, a business center, 1,663 square feet of meeting space, a swimming pool, a whirlpool, a fitness center and The Bistro Restaurant.

When fully running, the hotel is expected to employ at least 50 people.
