Kalama to work for board manufacturer
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. - Maui waterman Dave Kalama, a former Molokai-to-Oahu World Championship stand-up paddle board record-holder, has been named vice president of design and innovation of Imagine Surf, a stand-up paddle board manufacturer.
"It is important to me to team up with a company that not only shares my philosophy, ethics and authenticity, but also my goal of designing high-performance and accessible equipment," Kalama said.
Maui players named to U.S. rugby squad
SANTIAGO, Chile - Vili Tolutau and Solomone Anitema of Mana O Maui have been selected for a USA Rugby under-19 team that will play in South America this month.
Nuu Aiava of the Big Island and Fitou Fisiiahi of Oahu, both of whom trained with Maui Rugby High Performance Academy this summer, were also picked for the team.
The U.S. team will play its first match on Sunday, against Chile's under-19 team.
Men's softball league accepting registration
KIHEI - Registration is under way for the South Maui Parks and Recreation men's open softball league.
Games are to begin in the third week of August, and be played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at South Maui Community Park.
The league is limited to 20 teams, and registration forms are available at the Parks and Recreation Department office at 303 E. Lipoa St.
