After my Pohle for Upcountry Council campaign theme was published (Letters, June 25), my son suggested that "The Meter Priority List is a Fraud based on a Lie" was too negative. My Facebook friends agreed. My new theme is: Pohle for Truth, Justice and the American Way. I may even buy a cape.
Truth: The Upcountry meter list remains a discriminatory fraud based on a lie. Repeal it smartly. Enact reasonable user, development and infrastructure fees, not impossible, uncertain barrier fees. See www.umla.ws.
Justice: Let the property tax reflect the actual use of the property. If you live on it, it's a residence. If it doesn't have a meter, it's unusable. If it's unusable, don't tax it like a residence.
American way: Freedom, free enterprise, freedom to compete*, freedom from undue and obscure regulations. Free agency, free elections* and everything free but a free lunch. Remember that generosity to the disadvantaged depends on wealth generated by jobs in a vibrant economy.
*If you can vote for a political office, you should be eligible to run for it.
And, I agree with Erin McLaughlin, Kahului candidate for council (Letters, July 4): We both would be excellent additions to the council.
