100 Years Ago

1912 - The 26th annual meet of the Maui Racing Association was brought to a successful close Thursday when a large and enthusiastic crowd was in attendance. The weather was perfect for the sport of kings and the track was in fine condition.

75 Years Ago

1937 - No immediate relief is seen for Kihei water users as water supply diminishes. Merely to install a larger line would not solve the situation since there would be no water to put in it.

50 Years Ago

1962 - Twist contest eliminations at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and intercollegiate baseball will be among the top attractions at the Junior Chamber of Commerce carnival today. There will also be a Healthy Baby Contest with 23 babies entered.

25 Years Ago

1987 - Yoko Ono will be on Maui on Friday for "Bag One," an exhibit of her late husband John Lennon's lithographs, serigraphs and neon kinetic sculptures at the new Dyansen Gallery in Kaanapali.

10 Years Ago

2002 - Lisa Schattenburg-Raymond, executive director of Maui Nui Botanical Gardens Inc., celebrates the first anniversary of the gardens with board of directors President Janet Allen, staff and other board members and supporters at a lunch meeting. Last year, the organization gave away 1,400 plants to the community and was involved in a wide variety of events.
