Turbine blows through town

July 17, 2012
The Maui News
A section of a wind turbine tower for the Auwahi Wind project is transported on Kaahumanu Avenue in Kahului to a temporary staging and storage area near Kahului Harbor on Sunday. Police closed the road to other traffic while the equipment was moved. Delivery of the wind turbine components to the Ulupalakua Ranch site of the wind farm is expected to begin later this summer, said Scott Crider, spokesman for Sempra U.S. Gas & Power. He said that the company will announce the turbine transportation schedule in advance so residents and motorists can be aware of any road closures. The wind farm project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, Crider said.
