Two Kihei men and a 14-year-old boy were arrested early Monday in a robbery investigation after a man reported being doused with pepper spray and having his skateboard stolen, police said.
The victim, a 27-year-old Kihei man, was riding his skateboard north on South Kihei Road near Kupuna Street at 12:50 a.m. when he was accosted by three males in a low-rider truck, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.
He said the truck pulled over in front of the skateboarder before the 19-year-old front-seat passenger got out and approached, spraying pepper spray in the skateboarder's face. The 14-year-old boy then jumped out of the bed of the truck and took the skateboard valued at $200, Rego said.
When the victim's friend intervened and said he would call police, the 20-year-old driver asked them not to call police and gave the skateboard back before the three males fled in the truck, Rego said.
He said the victim called police, providing the license plate number of the truck.
The 20-year-old was arrested at his residence at about 7 a.m., Rego said. He said the other two suspects were later located and arrested by Detective Jeffrey Mahoney.
The juvenile was later released to his mother. The two men were released pending further investigation of first-degree robbery.
