Arguing semantics in health care issue ridiculous

July 18, 2012
The Maui News

The July 7 editorial cartoon tees up this letter. The tax-versus-penalty brouhaha - arguing semantics while ignoring fundamentals is ridiculous in the extreme as some of us struggle to find affordable health insurance.

All of us fare better when all of us pay into a health care system. We are all exposed to the possibility of contracting a catastrophic illness, and no one who is living with a chronic pre-existing condition cares whether it's called a fee, a premium, a tax or a penalty.
