The state Land Use Commission will hold meetings at 10 a.m. today and Friday at the Courtyard Maui Kahului Airport hotel regarding the West Maui Land Co. proposed Kahoma Subdivision Docket A12-795 located at TMK:(2)4-5-010:005. They have the support of the county and the mayor, so if you want to keep it as open space like it is designated in the West Maui Community Plan and have a place for a future Lahaina park, you need to act now. If you do not mind that the west side is going to be covered in pavement with all the developments, then you do not need to do anything because that is the way it is going.
People may testify at the meetings when the public is allowed or send email to luc@dbedt.hawaii.gov (chairperson is Normand Lezy).
My dream would be to have a natural environment with a Hawaiian theme playground and community garden. Mango, plum and other trees would grow like before with some watering and maybe the endangered species that lived there would return. There could be paths for walking, biking, baby strollers and wheelchair access. There would be ample room for kids and dogs to run and play.
Thank you for taking the time to help create the community you want to live in and share with future generations.
