A candidate forum, featuring Maui County candidates in contested races in the Aug. 11 primary election, will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and broadcast live on three Akaku: Maui Community Television channels.
"While some candidates will tout their achievements, others will critique the way things have been done in the past and suggest ways to improve government operations," said Dick Mayer, board member of the Kula Community Association, one of the sponsors of the event. "The forum should be interesting; it certainly will not be dull television."
The other sponsors of the candidate forum are the Kihei Community Association, Akaku Community Television and The Maui News.
The live forum will be broadcast on cable channels 52, 53 and 54. For those who prefer online viewing, there will be a streaming program on Channel 53. Go to the website akaku.org/ and click on the word "Live" just above the "53."
The moderators will be Nanea Kalani, reporter for The Maui News; Ilima Loomis, former reporter with The Maui News and current managing editor of Spirituality & Health magazine; and members of the Kula and Kihei community associations.
The forum will include candidates for two County Council races, the nonpartisan Wailuku and Kahului residency races; a state Senate Democratic primary for District 7 that includes Upcountry and East Maui, Molokai and Lanai; and three Democratic primaries for state House District 9-Kahului, District 10-West Maui and District 11-South Maui.
