FULLERTON, Calif. - Kawena Alo-Kaonohi pitched a complete-game three-hitter and Kao Mindoro was 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs to lead the Maui Pony 13 All-Stars to a 10-0, five-inning win over Washington in their opener at the Pony 13 Western Zone Tournament on Saturday at Ameridge Park.
Alo-Kaonohi struck out nine and walked two, while his teammates gave him a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Maui erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth and Alo-Kaonohi finished the shutout in the top of the fifth to shorten the game via the mercy rule.
Mindoro also had a triple to lead Maui's 10-hit attack, Kekoa Ostermiller was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Nevan Watanabe had a triple and two RBIs, Kaipo Paschoal had a double and two RBIs, and Nawai Kaupe had a double.

Maui, which has nine players from last year's state-champion Little League Majors team, plays Long Beach, Calif., today. The winner of the Western Zone will advance to the Pony 13 World Series July 27-31 at the same facility.
