Recycling event to launch in Hana

July 23, 2012
The Maui News

PUUNENE - Old appliances, scrap metal, tires, and household and vehicle batteries will be accepted at a Hana community recycling event 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday to July 28.

Community Work Day, with the support of the County of Maui, will be collecting these items at the Hana Landfill & Recycling Center and transporting them to recycling facilities in Central Maui.

There will be a $5 per tire recycling fee.

Items that won't be collected include vehicles, furniture, propane tanks, computers, televisions and electronics.

The recycling event is for items not accepted into landfills and was made possible by a partnership between the County of Maui, the Department of Environmental Management's Abandoned Vehicles and Metals Section, Maui Tow & Transport and Hammerhead Metals Recycling.

Bob Carroll, who holds the East Maui residency seat on the County Council, is supplying the housing for Community Work Day workers.

Elderly and disabled community members are encouraged to call Community Work Day for help in transporting items to the staging area.

For more information, call Community Work Day at 877-2524 or email info@cwdhawaii.org.
