Man killed in Colorado theater considered Maui his favorite place

July 26, 2012
The Maui News

A man who was killed in the Colorado movie theater shootings considered Maui his favorite place and spent much of his time here at Big Beach in Makena, according to his parents, who are part-time Maui residents.

Alex Teves, 24, was shot while shielding his girlfriend from gunfire. He was among 12 people killed when a gunman opened fire at a midnight showing of the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colo.

"He was one of those kinds of people you don't forget," said a family friend, who is friends with Teves' parents and met him when he was on Maui last Christmas. "He was the kind of person that made you feel like you were the most important person in the world."
