Maui staves off elimination at Western Zone

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - The Maui Mustang (9-10) All-Stars stayed alive with a 1-1 showing at the Mustang Western Zone Tournament at Los Alamitos Youth Park on Friday.

Maui (2-1) lost to Corona, Calif., 8-2, but then advanced to the final four of the tournament with an 11-4 win over Tacoma, Wash.

In the win, Sebastian Beaudoin was 2-for-3 with a double, Konner Palmeira smacked a two-run homer and Kamahao Ching had two RBIs.

Kaeo Kamau, Palmeira and Janden Llego combined on a six-hitter on the mound for Maui.

In Maui's loss, Ching was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Maui faces Mission Viejo, Calif., a team it beat 10-5 in the opener on Thursday, today. A win would send Maui to another elimination game later in the day with a berth in Sunday's championship game at stake.
