Aug. 5-The Maui Youth Basketball League is taking applications for its fall league, for boys and girls born in years 1997 to 2006. Volunteer coaches and referees are also needed. * CYCLING
Aug. 25-The Cycle to the Sun, a 36-mile race from Paia to the summit of Haleakala, 10,023 feet above sea level, is scheduled for Aug. 25, with a 6:30 a.m. start. Riders can register individually or as a three-person relay team. The entry fee is $200 for individual racers, or $300 for a team. A $25 fee will be charged after Aug. 6. Aug. 12-Applications are currently being accepted for the 30th annual Baldwin Basketball Backers Benefit Golf Tournament. The two-person scramble tournament will be held on Aug. 12 at the Waiehu Municipal Golf Course. Entry forms are available at most local golf course pro shops.
