100 Years Ago

1912 - The People's Store has opened with a full line of Wellman Peck's Fancy Groceries. Dry Goods, Hardware, Candies, Cigars, etc. Everybody is invited to come in and inspect our stock.

75 Years Ago

1937 - Finals of the soapbox derby in Akron, Ohio, in which Mauian Johnny Feiteira is entered, will be broadcast by both Honolulu radio stations. The Maui News is arranging to get United Press coverage of young Feiteira's performance in the derby.

50 Years Ago

1962 -Last Tuesday when the doors closed on Maui Drug on Market Street, a long period of service to Wailuku's residents came to a close. For many long years the Wailuku Koffee Klatch has held its morning meetings in Earl and Dorothy Naito's establishment.

25 Years Ago

1987 -By 9:30 a.m., a half-hour after the official opening of the new Central Maui landfill, more than 20 cars and three dumpsters had already unloaded rubbish at the Pulehu Road site yesterday. The 17-acre former quarry site is made for expansion to 55 acres.

10 Years Ago

2002 -The Kamehameha Maui campus will welcome 590 students in kindergarten through 9th grade on Aug. 21. Enrollment is expected to increase to 830 in 2003; to 970 in 2004; and to 1,120 in 2005, including the first group of graduating seniors
