As a Vietnam veteran I want to make sure that our government honors its commitments to those of us who have put ourselves in harm's way to serve our country. This is why I want to make sure that my local state House representative knows what veterans have gone through and is actively working to help veterans.
I met Netra Halperin at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Kihei several years ago. She has been supporting our functions ever since. When I spoke with her I could tell that she really cares about the many hardships that veterans have gone through.
As a former social worker she understands that war wounds are not just physical, with an ever-increasing number of veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. She knows that veterans with PTSD need ongoing services. I have confidence that she will do whatever is in her power to help vets suffering with this sometimes debilitating condition.
Netra also produced an episode of her "Netra's News" on "War Veterans." She had on the show Fred Ruge, a Korean War veteran and veterans' advocate, who talked about how difficult it is for many veterans to get benefits; along with Janna Hoehn, who is coordinating the Maui section of The Education Center at The Wall, a learning facility under construction near the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
If you are a vet, or care about vets, I strongly suggest that you vote for Netra Halperin.
