MAUI CALLS 2012 AT THE MACC

ALOHA FRIDAY SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

The Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui and University of Hawaii, Maui College's Institute of Hawaiian Music (IHM) present "Aloha Friday Summer Concert Series." Students from IHM will be performing in the hotel lobby between 5 and 6 p.m. The concerts are free and open to all.

FRIDAY NIGHT IS ART NIGHT IN LAHAINA

Stroll through dozens of art galleries in LahainaTown tonight from 6 to 9 for special gallery shows, featured artists in action and refreshments - all free and open to the public. A walking map of participating galleries is available in Lahaina Visitor Center located at the Old Lahaina Courthouse from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or visit www.mauifridays.com and click on Lahaina for list of galleries.

OBON FESTIVAL AT WAILUKU HONGWANJI

Obon festival tonight at Wailuku Hongwanji. Reverend Shinkai Murakami will be delivering the Hatsubon sermon which starts at 6:50 p.m. Dancing starts at 8 p.m. The mission is located at 1828 Vineyard Street. For more information, call Michael Munekiyo, Obon committee chair at 244-2015.

RAPPER MICKEY AVALON AT MACC

Los Angeles rapper Mickey Avalon will perform at 8 p.m. in the Castle Theater at the MACC in Kahului. He is known for his graphic lyrics and bad-boy, punk-rock style. Presented by BAMP Project; for mature audiences only. Tickets $25 for reserved seats and $35 for access to pit in front of stage. Call 242-7469.

HOPE BALL: A PARTY WITH A PURPOSE

The American Cancer Society is holding its first annual "Hope Ball: A Party with a Purpose" at the Grand Wailea's Haleakala Ballroom. Festivities to start at 5 p.m. The evening will consist of gourmet cuisine, silent and live auctions, and entertainment by Deja Vu and Alika Nako'oka. Hawaii's first woman news anchor, Linda Coble will be the emcee. For tickets or more information call, 244-5554.

HALE MAHAOLU'S 'SPAMSTRUCTION'

Hale Mahaolu is hosting a "SPAMstruction" competition and Health Fair at Queen Kaahumanu Center from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The "SPAMstruction" competition will feature the talents and creativity of three Key Clubs at Maui's high schools. The first prize will go towards the winning school's Project Graduation fund. After the contest, the Maui Food Bank and Feed My Sheep will retrieve the cans of SPAM.
