A number of letters to the editor complain about cane burning on no-wind days. The best days to burn are during light winds, when the smoke goes into the upper atmosphere and blows away high above populated areas.
Windy days, on the contrary, carry all of the smoke down to ground level in residential areas for miles downwind of the burn, mostly in Kihei and Wailea - where most of the complaints come from. Be careful what you wish for.
