Woman charged with hindering prosecution in fatal water collision

HONOLULU (AP) - The girlfriend of an Australian tourist charged in a personal watercraft collision that killed a California teen has been charged with hindering prosecution of her boyfriend.

Natasha Ryan, 21, of Brisbane, Australia, turned herself in Friday and was released on $500 bail, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

Police said she misled investigators who were looking into what led to the Aug. 5 crash at Keehi Lagoon.

Her boyfriend, Tyson Dagley, was arrested and charged with third-degree negligent homicide last week in the death of Kristen Fonseca, 16, of Vacaville.

Investigators said Dagley was standing on his rented watercraft before it hit Fonseca's watercraft from behind. They said he was looking at his girlfriend, who was taking video and photos, and didn't pay attention to where he was going.

A police report said Ryan told investigators that Dagley was sitting down and looking straight ahead before the collision, and that she didn't see the collision.

However, a forensic computer examiner recovered two deleted videos from the memory stick in Ryan's camera that showed the crash. The report said that in the video, Dagley appears to be standing on the watercraft.

Ryan faces up to a year in prison if convicted of the misdemeanor.

She's scheduled to appear in Honolulu District Court on Sept. 7.
