PUKALANI - Parts of Pukalani lost power early Monday morning when the underground anchor of a utility pole on Hiolani Street gave way around 2:30 a.m., said Maui Electric Co. spokeswoman Kau'i Awai-Dickson.
Area resident Asa Ellison, who lives six houses away from the scene, reported being awoken by the crash and seeing a bright flash of light.
Electricity was restored to most residents by 3:43 a.m., Awai-Dickson said. Those customers included King Kekaulike High School and Kamehameha Schools Maui.

Customers on Hiolani Street had power restored at 8:30 a.m. Monday. MECO is looking into the cause of the incident and will ensure a plan is in place to prevent future problems, Awai-Dickson said.
