If we the people were really in charge, we would be focusing on climate change and green energy solutions and doing something about our dependance on oil.
Think about this: If you were a commercial fisherman and you had the most sophisticated fish-finding equipment that money could buy but you could not find any fish, would you buy more equipment or sell your boat and start a fish farm?
We have been subsidizing the big oil companies for quite some time now. They have the very best oil-finding equipment that our hard-earned money can buy them. Their subsidies are in the billions. If you think they are finding oil, then why are we even talking about the Keystone Pipeline? Why are we worrying about the Middle East? Because the oil is running out. Will we buy more equipment or will we look for new ways to supply our energy needs while conserving the precious resources that we have?
In the documentary "A Crude Awakening," people discuss how our children may never get to fly on an airplane. This should really concern these islands where much of our tourism is supplied by plane. Let's stop this terrible addiction to oil and ride the bus - for free.
