The Maui News

Custom-designed Bloody Mary drinks, mixology lessons, and an exclusive new ale from Maui Brewing Co. will all hit the spot at Ka'anapali Fresh.

The three-day festival from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2 will also stage a progressive dinner, culinary walk about, farmers market, brunch and music concerts starring Spyro Gyra and Third Eye Blind.

"We are honored to elevate our debut event with the skills of a master mixologist and a nationally celebrated local brewery," says Shelley Kekuna, longtime executive director of the Ka'anapali Beach Resort Association.

One event will be an embellishment of the award-winning champagne brunch at Ka'anapali Beach Hotel from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2.

Chandra Lam Lucariello, director of mixology for Southern Wine & Spirits of Hawai'i in Honolulu, will assist diners in creating individualized signature Bloody Mary drinks inspired by the myriad flavors and ingredients of the islands.

"A truly great cocktail can only start with great ingredients," she says. "All of the event's up-and-coming bar chefs will put the focus on fresh ingredients and think of themselves as artists."

From 2 to 4 p.m. on the afternoon of Sunday, Sept. 2, come for a cool drink at the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas, where Lucariello will present a mixology lesson and tasting that will also include gourmet hors d'oeuvres.

This interactive event will be outdoors with ocean views and includes the crafting and the tasting of three distinctive cocktails with the freshest ingredients. You may chat up the mixologist firsthand and cool off with her distinctive drinks.

That evening from 5:30 to 10, head to the Royal Lahaina Resort for the Concert Under the Ka'anapali Moonlight featuring Third Eye Blind.

That's when the Maui Brewing Co. will debut its eagerly anticipated Ka'anapali Golden Ale made with island lilikoi and guava. Listen to the alternative rock band, and savor barbecue sliders, flat breads, ribs, shrimp tacos and more.
