WAILUKU -- The suspicious device that forced the evacuation of three dozen Happy Valley residents Wednesday afternoon was determined to be a hoax, the Maui Police Department said.
An Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit from Oahu determined Wednesday night that there was no explosives present, and the suspicious package at a Mokuhau Road residence was not dangerous.
An all clear signal was issued around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday.
A Red Cross emergency shelter for displaced residents at the Wailuku Gym was closed at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.
