KAANAPALI - A 51-year-old California man was found unresponsive Friday morning, floating in water in front of the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa next to Black Rock, according to the Maui County Paramedics Association.
Lahaina paramedics were dispatched to the scene, arriving at 9:39 a.m. to help the man, who had been snorkeling, the association said. By then, bystanders had pulled the man out of the ocean and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The man had regained consciousness just before medics arrived.
The medics took the man to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition while administering advanced cardiac life support, the association reported.
Police, firefighters and Sheraton hotel security staff also assisted at the scene.
