Former major leaguers to offer instruction
WAILUKU - Mike Remlinger, Tyler Yates and Joey Meyer will be among six former Major League Baseball players who will offer instruction at a free clinic next week.
The clinic is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the War Memorial complex. Participants can arrive without signing up in advance, or can register at chevyyouthsports.com/rsvp to guarantee receiving a T-shirt. To register online, choose "Hawaii" from a pulldown menu of locations, then enter the password "playball."
Remlinger, who spent 14 seasons with six teams as a major league pitcher in a career that concluded in 2006, was part of the National League All-Star team in 2002. Yates, who is from Kauai, pitched for three teams in the major leagues from 2004 to 2009. Meyer, who is from Oahu, played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 1988 and 1989.
The other instructors will be Ron Robinson, who pitched for the Brewers and Cincinnati Reds from 1984 to 1992; Glenn Mickens, who pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1953 and later coached at UCLA; and John Hairston, who played in three games with the Chicago Cubs in 1969.
Tennis tournament set for Aug. 26 at Wailea
WAILEA - A round-robin tennis tournament is scheduled for 3-6 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the Wailea Tennis Club.
The fee is $20, which also pays for a dinner. The event will serve as a fundraiser for junior tennis.

'Get Golf Ready' lessons coming up at Pukalani
PUKALANI - Pukalani Country Club will offer introductory lessons as part of the "Get Golf Ready" program on five consecutive Sundays, starting Sept. 2.
