Thursday-Six former Major League Baseball players - including former All-Star Mike Remlinger and two Hawaii-born players, Tyler Yates and Joey Meyer - will offer instruction at a free clinic scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the War Memorial complex. The other instructors will be Ron Robinson, who pitched for the Brewers and Cincinnati Reds from 1984 to 1992; Glenn Mickens, who pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1953 and later coached at UCLA; and John Hairston, who played in three games with the Chicago Cubs in 1969. Participants can arrive without signing up in advance, or can register at chevyyouthsports.com/rsvp to guarantee receiving a T-shirt. Thursday-The deadline to register for the Cycle to the Sun, a 36-mile race from Paia to the summit of Haleakala, is Thursday. The race is scheduled for Saturday, with a 6:30 a.m. start. Riders can register individually or as a three-person relay team, with no more than 200 total entries available. The entry fee is $225 for individual racers, or $375 for a three-person team. Sept. 2-Pukalani Country Club will offer introductory lessons as part of the "Get Golf Ready" program on five consecutive Sundays, starting Sept. 2.
