Crews respond to Wailuku brush fire
Fire crews responded to a brush fire Sunday night on a Lower Main Street embankment across from St. Anthony School in Wailuku.
The fire was reported at 8:16 p.m. and was under control at 8:45 p.m., according to Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. The fire burned about 2,000 square feet of brush.

Go! Airlines' flight delays raise a stink
The state Department of Transportation on Monday said it has received complaints about go! Airlines flights being delayed on Maui.
DOT Spokeswoman Caroline Sluyter said that the department received complaints about delayed flights on Friday and Monday. She referred comment on the reason for the delays to go!
On Monday afternoon, an employee at go! Airlines offices on Oahu referred comments to their corporate office in Arizona, which had already closed for the day.

Bail not reduced in kidnapping, assault
WAILUKU - Bail was continued at $170,000 Monday for a 30-year-old man charged with kidnapping and sexual assault of female in 2009.
According to court records Makni Iosinobu is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, attempted first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping for an incident on June 13, 2009.
Deputy Public Defender Greg Ball had asked that bail be reduced to $17,000 for Iosinobu.
Ball had Iosinobu's cousin testify in court that Iosinobu has a residence in Kihei.
Deputy Prosecutor Simone Polak said that the court testimony wasn't enough as a probation officer could not contact anyone via phone at the Kihei residence.
She said the defendant is a "danger to the community."
Polak added that the victim in the case said she did have a relationship with Iosinobu for two weeks and it was dissolved amicably, but a year to a year and a half later Iosinobu committed the felony crimes against the victim.
Second Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo maintained bail for Iosinobu and ordered him to follow certain conditions including staying away from the victim.

Tickets at MACC to go on sale for group
The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue, featuring Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
The group is performing for the first time in Hawaii with its nine-piece ensemble band, the MACC said in a release Monday. It will also be performing on Oahu on Oct. 24 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
Tickets to the Maui event will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday for MACC members only. Public sale begins at 10 a.m. Aug. 31.
Tickets are priced at $55, $85, $95, with a limited number of premium seats at $149, plus applicable fees.

Fagen is of Steely Dan fame while McDonald is a solo artist who was with The Doobie Brothers. Scaggs, a guitarist, was an occasional lead singer with the Steve Miller Band.
