Engineers union supports Hirono
HONOLULU - Local Union 121 of the International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers has endorsed Democrat Mazie Hirono for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Daniel Akaka.
According to an announcement from the Hirono campaign, the union is a "prominent alliance" of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard engineers, scientists and technical employees, with 1,300 members and their families.
Union President Jamie Kobayakawa said that as a member of the House of Representatives, Hirono has helped protect federal employees from attacks on pay, pensions and jobs.
