Police are investigating a human skull found over the weekend by hunters near Waiohuli Hawaiian Homes in Kula.
The discovery was reported Saturday by a group of hunters who were in an area of kiawe just below the subdivision, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division. He said patrol officers secured the scene, notifying detectives, who recovered the skull. It will be submitted for a forensic examination to determine how old it is, Rego said.
He said detectives were called to the same area March 4 when a different group of hunters reported finding a skull. But the hunters couldn't remember exactly where the skull was and detectives couldn't locate it.
