Church looking for handbell ringers

August 24, 2012
The Maui News

WAILUKU - Good Shepherd Episcopal Church is looking for more people to ring bells in its handbell choir.

The church has three octaves of Malmark bells that have been used by the choir for years.

Volunteers need to attend weekly practice sessions and have a commitment to the musicians in the choir. The choir is open to anyone 13 and older.

It is not necessary to be able to read music or be a member of the church parish. The choir usually plays at the 8:30 a.m. Sunday service once per quarter and on special occasions such as Christmas Eve and Easter.

The first bell choir rehearsal is at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 5 in the church, located at the corner of Church and Main streets in Wailuku.

For more information, call the church office at 244-4656, Mondays through Fridays; or call organist and choir director Tannis Grimes at 573-0272.
