SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Steve Boggs singled in a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the San Rafael Pacifics beat Na Koa Ikaika Maui 7-6 on Saturday in the opening game of their best-of-three series for the North American League's North Division championship.
Darrick Hale was 3-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs for San Rafael (33-25), which overcame four errors.
Baldwin High School graduate Gered Mochizuki hit a two-run double for Maui (35-29), which squandered leads of 4-3 and 6-4. Kalaika Kahoohalahala, a Maui High graduate, was 2-for-5 and scored a pair of runs.
Matthew Stabelfeld (3-3) pitched a perfect eighth inning for the win, and Julian Arballo, the fifth pitcher used by the Pacifics, struck out two batters in a perfect ninth for his third save.
Yoshihiro Doi (1-1) was the losing pitcher.
The series, which had originally been scheduled as regular-season games, will continue today.
