FIRST PHOTO: Archie Kalepa speaks Thursday night at Outrigger Canoe Club during his induction into the Hawaii Waterman's Hall of Fame. Kalepa, Maui County's ocean safety supervisor, completed the first known solo stand-up paddle across the Molokai Channel, in 2004, and is one of the most established surfers at the "Jaws" surfbreak in Peahi, riding waves reaching 70 feet. He has also helped develop ocean safety equipment with C4 Waterman, the company he co-founded with fellow inductee Brian Keaulana.
SECOND PHOTO: Kalepa - whose achievements also include a stand-up paddle of 187 miles of the Colorado River in 2009 - provides an autograph.
