Iao Intermediate School 6th-grader Jared Gifford, 11, ducks into a moving tube while “tarp surfing” with Iao School 7th-grader Cordon Stapp, 13, on Saturday afternoon in Waiehu. Cordon said he got the idea off the Internet. “I saw some guy on YouTube doing it,” he said. “Today’s a little too windy for it.” The boys started with the tarp flat on the ground. As one rides through on a skateboard, the other pulls a corner quickly overhead to create the sense of a tube ride in surfing.
