On the morning of Aug. 18, I received a call from the Maui Humane Society with wonderful news: Charlotte, my beloved orange tabby cat, who had disappeared more than two months ago, had been turned in by someone. Words cannot describe my relief. I would like to express my gratitude to the person who brought my kitty to the Humane Society and gave her a chance to be reunited with me.
At the shelter, Charlotte was immediately scanned for a microchip and fortunately she had one, enabling the shelter to reach me.
A lesson I learned from this ordeal is that we need to start asking our visitors to close the windows of their cars, since it is likely that the cat took a nap on someone's car seat and went for a ride to a faraway place.
Charlotte returned to me hungry, thirsty and underweight, but she will be just fine. I am so happy to have her home.
