Those who live here in Kihei do not appreciate being lectured by NIMBY (Not in My Back Yard) letter writers who are all for this garish mega-mall, as long as it's not in their tranquil corner of Maui. Is it coincidental that most of the stern lectures are coming from areas outside Kihei?
For too long, Kihei has been treated like the ugly stepchild of Maui. Where are all the other traffic circles planned for Maui? Now it's time for us to have a mega-mall shoved into our faces, to be filled with shops and outlet stores that will go out of business in six months - just like all the other Sizzlers, Red Lobsters, Borders and (fill in your favorite here) dumped on us in the past.
Let's put it in Wailuku. If ever an area needed economic help and more traffic, that's the place. How about Kula? How about your backyard?
