As many of us watched the devastation caused by Hurricane Isaac from the safety of our living rooms, four of our friends and neighbors were on their way to help.
Red Cross volunteers Michele Liberty, Andrea Finkelstein, Jim Jackson and Rebecca King deployed Tuesday night to a staging area in Texas. According to a press release, they may be assigned to emergency shelters or to drive an emergency response vehicle distributing meals and supplies.
The Maui volunteers are among 10 from the state and 2,400 from across the country that are headed to the Gulf Coast area to help those stricken.
We all can help, though, by making a donation to the Red Cross. Go to www.hawaiiredcross.org, click on "Donate Now" under "How You Can Help." You will be walked through the steps to make an online donation.
The Red Cross is always there when disaster strikes. Liberty and Finkelstein are veteran volunteers who helped out in 2008 when Hurricanes Gustav and Ike hit the Gulf.
So, remember to pray for our volunteers and all those who have to deal with Isaac's aftermath. And make a small donation to make sure they have all the supplies they need for this and future disasters.
