93-year-old woman safe after apartment fire

A 93-year-old woman and her dog are safe after the front entrance walls of her Iao Parkside apartment in Wailuku caught on fire early this morning causing an estimated $2,100 in damage, fire officials said.

Neighbors woke up the woman who was in the apartment with her dog. Fire officials said the woman did not know her apartment was on fire. Around seven other apartment residents in the area were also evacuated.

There were no reports of injuries.

Fire engine crews from Wailuku and Kahului along with the Kahului rescue crew were dispatched to the fire at 1090 Eha St., Unit 102 at 3:41 a.m. today. The fire was under control at 3:55 a.m.

The fire was extinguished at 4:43 a.m.

Damage is estimated at $2,000 to the structure and $100 to the contents. The cause of the fire is undetermined as police conduct an investigation.
